My mom is convinced they have the best marinara sauce she's ever had. Palma Maria Italian in Casselberry, in the NE Orlando area. Nearby, in Hannibal Square, there is Dexter's and Chez Vincent, which have a few other locations. Restaurants on the Ave include Chef Justin's Park Plaza Gardens (saw Nick Faldo eating at a sidewalk table there several years ago), Panullo's Italian (my sister in law liked their eggplant), Park Ave Bistro, Brandywine Deli, Allegria Italian, The Briarpatch (my sister had their filet mignon sandwich a number of years ago), Jardins (French)and newer places like Spice (steakhouse) and Bosphorus (Turkish food). Near Park Ave are a number of old homes with overgrown trees and foliage, etc., and some other brick streets. At the end of Park Ave is Rollins College, the oldest institution of higher education in Florida. It is a shopping area with brick streets and a number of boutique shops, and also some restaurants. If there's one place that's unique and different from Disney, its Park Ave in Winter Park, which you could say is the "uptown" of Orlando. Not that there aren't things to check out, but I wouldn't get your expectations too high. And many of the people who live here came in that time of growth. Much of what Orlando is today came about because of the growth brought about by Disney. Not really sure if there's such a thing as "the real Orlando".
